COVID UPDATES
Update: Sunday, April 24, 2022
“Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible, but not everything builds up. No one is to seek his own good, but the good of the other person.”
1 Corinthians 10:23-24
Beginning Sun, 5/1, face masks are now optional but are still recommended. Please respect the decision of others—either to wear a mask or not. When interacting with others, please be considerate of what they may need or wish. The mask is not the main thing, but our love for one another and our intent to build one another up in Christ.

Due to widespread infection of COVID-19 and out of an abundance of caution, all food and beverage service (e.g., refreshments and meals) shall be suspended on church campus until the end of January. At which time, this will be re-evaluated. The reopening of Connection Corner (coffee service) and recreational activities will be delayed until further notice. Please continue to practice care in sanitizing hands, wearing a face mask, and staying home and contacting your medical provider if you are sick.

Update: Saturday, 9/25/2021
INSTRUCTIONS: If You Had Close Contact With Someone Who Has/May Have COVID-19
These instructions are based primarily upon the “Summary: Quarantine and Other Instructions for Close Contacts” from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (please see ph.lacounty.gov/covidquarantine).
1. May I come to church if I was in close contact* with someone who may have or has COVID-19?
You are exempt from quarantine and may come to church if you do not have symptoms of COVID-19 and either: a. Are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or b. Have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 3 months and recovered.
If you are not exempt from quarantine, you may leave quarantine and come to church if you do not develop symptoms of COVID-19 after: a: Day 10 or
b. Day 7, if you get a test after Day 5 and it is negative.
Day 1 is the first full day after your last contact with the infected person.
If you were in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, monitor your health and take extra precautions for 14 days after your last contact.
• If you develop symptoms, you must stay home and away from others.
• Protect yourself and others by wearing a mask (even at home). Stay at least 6 feet away from others. Wash your hands often. Stay away from people who are a high risk of getting very sick from COVID-19.
* Close contact: You were within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. You had unprotected contact with their body fluids and/or secretions. For example, you were coughed or sneezed on, shared a cup or eating utensils, kissed, or cared for them without wearing the right protective equipment.
2. May I come to church if I was in close contact with someone who was in close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case?
You may come to church if you do not have symptoms of COVID-19 and the person in close contact with the confirmed COVID-19 case does not have symptoms and tests negative. This is a case where you did not have close contact yourself with the confirmed COVID-19 case, but are in close contact with someone who did.
Example: Your child is quarantined because your child was in contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case at school. While you (the parent) are waiting for your child’s test result, you should be in precautionary quarantine and not attend church. This applies to other members living in your household (such as siblings). If your child does not develop symptoms of COVID-19 and tests negative,
then you and other members of your household may come to church if none of you have symptoms.

Update: Saturday, 9/11/2021
Nursery Closure
Thank God for no reports of additional infections since the single COVID-19 case that prompted closure of our nursery last Sunday. The nursery will remain closed as a precaution and to allow for deep cleaning. We hope to partially reopen the nursery on 10/3 with reassessed policies and procedures. Parents of nursery children, you should have received Minister Brian Wang’s letter about the closure and the Zoom meetings on the 3rd Saturday each month. For questions or concerns, please contact Minister Brian at brianwang@fcbc.org.

Update: Saturday, 9/5/2021
Dear FCBCLA Church Family,
This is to inform you that there has been a case of COVID-19 reported in our church within the last week. The individual has been recovering well at home. Due to legal requirements and privacy concerns, we cannot share details about the individual, nor do we want to stigmatize one another. We continue to pray for this person’s recovery and for God’s presence to be with this individual.
If you have not been directly contacted to self-monitor or to receive a COVID-19 test, you may rest assured that you were not in close contact with the individual. Per CDC guidelines, close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a duration of 15 minutes or more in a 24-hour period.
Since the reporting of this case of COVID-19, please be assured that:
1) Church facilities have been cleaned and sanitized with extra precaution (it is routinely done). As a precaution, Life Center Nursery is closed this Sunday, 9/5.
2) All individuals who have been around the positive case have been contacted and asked to self-monitor and receive a COVID-19 test.
3) In addition, we continue to ask you to exercise diligence in wearing your mask properly, maintain physical distance when appropriate, and sanitize your hands often.
We encourage you to receive a COVID-19 vaccination. If you are concerned, please talk with your medical provider. If you are sick, please stay home and contact your medical provider immediately and receive a COVID-19 test if necessary. If you test positive and have been at church, please inform your congregation pastor.
As we go forward, please be aware that these types of announcements may occur, and COVID-19 cases may be reported. However, due to legal requirements and privacy concerns, we cannot share details about the individual, nor do we want to stigmatize one another. Even if someone is sick, we are still called to love and care for one another. Do not spread rumors and if you have concerns or questions, please speak with the pastoral staff or email info@fcbc.org. Once again, please know that we are trying to do what is best for our church family and we will continue to practice our utmost care for God’s flock.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. Thank you also for your continued prayers and care for one another as we navigate these times. May God continue to carry us through these times and may our faith be steadfast in our Lord Jesus Christ.

REOPENING UPDATE: Sunday, 8/1/21
Given the current increase in the cases of COVID, we will remain in our current phase of re-opening a little longer with limited programs and activities. This will give us time to observe and evaluate the trends and government recommendations to make the best decisions for the safety of our people. Our Sunday activities with worship, Sunday School, and various Sunday meetings will continue but other future activities may be postponed for the time being until the situation becomes more clear. For now, all facility requests for any programs and activities on the church campus must be submitted through activities@fcbc.org and approved by the pastoral staff. Let us continue to pray for God’s intervention and guidance as we go through this time together.

UPDATE: Saturday, 7/31/21
Dear FCBCLA church family,
This is to inform you that there has been one (1) case of COVID-19 reported in our church within the last week. The individual has been recovering well at home. Due to legal requirements and privacy concerns, we cannot share details about the individual, nor do we want to stigmatize one another. We continue to pray for their recovery and for God’s presence to be with them.
If you have not been directly contacted to self-monitor or to receive a COVID-19 test, you may rest assured that you were not in close contact with the individual. Per CDC guidelines, close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a duration of 15 minutes or more in a 24-hour period.
As COVID-19 and the Delta variant continues to spread throughout our local region, it should be expected that cases may rise in our midst as well. At this point, however, we believe this is an isolated incident and do not believe that it is widespread in our church family. We will continue to gather for in-person Sunday Worship, Sunday School, and other pre-approved ministries. We consulted with medical experts and feel it is still safe at
this time for us to continue to gather. If the situation escalates and we deem it necessary, we will limit our regathering and move ministries online.
Since the reporting of this one (1) case of COVID-19, please be assured that:
1) Church facilities have been cleaned and sanitized with extra precaution (it is routinely done). The utmost care for our communal health has been taken.
2) All individuals who have been around the positive case have been contacted and asked to self-monitor and receive a COVID-19 test (results have been returning negative).
3) In addition, we continue to ask you to exercise diligence in wearing your mask properly, maintain physical distance when appropriate, and sanitize your hands often.
We encourage you to receive a COVID-19 vaccination. If you are concerned, please talk with your medical provider. If you are sick, please stay home and contact your medical provider immediately and receive a COVID19 test if necessary. If you test positive and have been at church, please inform your congregation pastor.

REOPENING UPDATE: Sunday, 5/30/21
As we draw nearer to June 15th, when our state and LA County anticipates reopening, we also hope to move forward in our re-opening plans. We are thankful to God for the continual progress in vaccination and improvements in the COVID-19 pandemic situation. We are also thankful that there have been no known cases of COVID-19 transmission on our church campus since regathering for worship services. And, we are thankful for our church family’s cooperation as an expression of our love for one another and as a witness to our community.
Assuming the positive trend continues and there is no surge in COVID-19 cases as the county re-opens, these are our tentative plans for the next phase of re-opening.
Beginning July 4th, we will continue our in-person worship services and also begin to restore in-person Sunday School as follows:
- 9:00 AM
- Nursery- Limited capacity with pre-registration required
- Children’s Sunday School – Limited capacity with pre-registration required (with online option)
- Youth Sunday School (with online option)
- English-speaking Equip Classes (Sunday School) Summer Seminar (with online option)
- Mandarin-speaking Sunday School (with online option)
- 10:45 AM
- Nursery- Limited capacity with pre-registration required
- Children’s Church- Limited capacity with pre-registration required
- Cantonese-speaking Sunday School Summer Elective Class (with online option)
- Cantonese-speaking Sunday School New Believers Class (with online option)
Also beginning July 4th:
- All worship services will return to full capacity with no physical distancing required. A designated section in the Worship Center will be reserved for those who still wish to sit physically distanced.
- Online pre-registration will no longer be required. On campus check-in, however, will still be required for contact tracing purposes in the unlikely event a COVID-19 case is reported.
- Temperature checks will no longer be required for adults but will still be required for minors when they check in.
- Masks will still be required as we cannot require vaccination for all who attend. This applies to all personnel on the platform, worship teams, and choirs.
If this phase of the reopening goes well and the COVID-19 pandemic situation continues to improve, we will eventually restore weekday gatherings such as prayer meetings, fellowship groups, recreation, etc. For now, we encourage fellowship groups and small groups to consider gathering safely in homes or outdoors.
Thank you, FCBC family, for your patience and faithfulness. We know how eager we all are to worship God together and to minister to one another. Let us continue to pray for each other and trust in our unchanging God.
See you soon,
FCBCLA Pastoral Staff and Reopening Task Force

UPDATE: Wednesday, 4/28/2021
It has given me great joy to prepare and present these devotionals each week to you as a church over the past year. This is our last devotional for this series and I pray that this same joy would be present as we approach and seek God’s counsel through His Word. As we begin to transition our church back to in-person gatherings, my hope is that we never lose focus on the importance of what God has been teaching us and will continue to teach through what He has said. Take a moment to truly appreciate the Bible and how it has provided great insight into the God and faith we believe in. Thank you for joining me to meditate on God’s Word together these past 57 weeks. I hope to truly see you all very soon!

UPDATE: Wednesday, 4/21/2021
As we continue to pray for our church this week, here are some reminders on how to lift up those in leadership positions. Scripture encourages us to pray rather specifically in a few key areas so that our leaders would remain close to God as decisions are made and events are planned. Whether you are in a place of leadership or know of leaders in your area(s) of ministry, take some time this week to pray in these important ways, especially in this pivotal time.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 4/14/2021
As we look at the analogy of growing plants that Christ taught throughout His ministry, may we be encouraged to continue the work of evangelism in our lives. Pray that the Lord would remind us of this great task to speak the truth of the Gospel to those around us. Ask Him to give you specific names of people around you and perhaps even strangers that you may encounter. Seek out opportunities and take courage when God opens doors. He is always working to expand the kingdom. We need to be willing and open to take our part in sowing seeds.

UPDATE: Sunday, 4/11/2021
Reopening Update • With the most recent announcement from the Governor about the possible June 15th reopening of the state and ongoing reopening and vaccination efforts in LA County, we are thankful for the prospect of regathering in-person again. Just a reminder that we are following the LA County guidelines, not the California guidelines, as we continue to keep the health and safety of our church family and surrounding community as a high priority. At the same time, we are excited to be able to regather for worship and to see one another face-to-face again. Here is the plan for our regathering based on the current forecast, however please remain prayerful and vigilant as plans may be subject to change.
How are things going:
- English-speaking in-person Easter Service went very well. Logistically, it exceeded our expectations and the expectations of those who attended.
- English-speaking Worship Service moved to livestreaming on Sundays at 10:45 am.
- Mandarin-speaking Worship Service has been in the Hall of Truth (MPR) for almost a month. Cantonese-speaking Worship Service continues to livestream from the Worship Center. Both livestream services are going well.
- Livestream and internet capacity has been tested for having services in Worship Center and Hall of Truth (MPR) at the same time. Test results have been successful.
- Registration and check-in/temperature check systems have been implemented and tested.
- Custodial staff have been reassigned to clean and sanitize before, during, and between worship services. All high-touch areas, restrooms, and shared spaces will be cleaned frequently.
- All shared AV and musical equipment will be cleaned by service personnel.
- Hand sanitizers and sanitation caddies will be made readily available.
- HVAC filtration systems have been updated with higher rated filters (MERV 12) and increased air flow from the outside.
Where are we headed:
- Church office will restore limited in-person operations as soon as all staff has had the opportunity to receive the Covid-19 vaccination. Reopening date and public hours will be announced at a later time.
- May 2: All three language congregations will have limited in-person worship services. Registration, check-in/temperature check, and socially distanced seating will be required. This will test our ability to facilitate three services on Sundays and show us what crowd movement and transitions will be like. Registration instructions will be announced.
Cantonese-speaking: 150 total attendance in Worship Center at 9:00 am- English-speaking: 375 total attendance (to be confirmed) in Worship Center and also the MPB Gym to allow for family pods (including children) to sit together at 10:45 am
- Mandarin-speaking: 75 total attendance in Hall of Truth (MPR) at 10:45 am
- May 9 (Mother’s Day)
- Cantonese-speaking: 150 total attendance for registered senior adults only
- English-speaking/Mandarin-speaking: After evaluating the 5/2 service, we may consider continuing with limited capacity in-person services for all languages through May and into June.
- After June 15, if CA state tiers are removed and guidance changes in LA County:
- Masks will still be required, but we will have open seating and will increase capacity
- Consider plans for Children and Youth
- Consider plans for Sunday School, fellowship groups, etc.
How can I pray:
- Pray for God’s mercy and continued improvement of the pandemic situation locally and around the world. Lord Jesus, have mercy on us!
- Pray for our spiritual preparedness to regather in-person, along with our logistical preparedness. May our times of in-person and online worship be about Jesus and free of distractions.
- Pray for our witness to our surrounding community and love for our neighbors. May we shine our light to the glory of God.
- Pray for the Holy Spirit to fill each one of us that we would know God’s will and for wisdom in our personal decisions to regather in-person.
Once again, at this point, our goal is to regather for limited in-person worship services with livestream in all languages. We will continue to have all other ministries remain online to minimize disruption of our ministry operations. Children are welcomed on campus, but must stay with their family. No nursery or childcare will be provided for now. Children’s Ministry reopening plans are under consideration. For the foreseeable future, we will continue in this hybrid (in-person/online) mode.
Thank you for your patience and faithfulness to the FCBCLA family. We know how eager we are to be able to regather and not only worship God together but to minister to one another. Let us continue to pray for each other and trust in our unchanging God in these uncertain times.
Until we meet again,
FCBCLA Pastoral Staff and Reopening Task Force

Many of us pray for unsaved relatives and friends. It can be a long and discouraging battle. How can we encourage one another to continue praying? How should we pray for our unsaved loved ones? I’d like to share 4 specific things we can pray for from God’s Word. May we be reminded of our responsibility in prayer and God’s faithfulness in answering those prayers.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 3/31/2021
As we reflect during Passion Week, our prayer is to fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfector of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). We look to Christ not just as the one who took on the pain of the cross and died innocently, but as the one who now sits on high next to God the Father. In His resurrection, Christ has overcome sin and death, so we see Him today as our reigning King on the throne in heaven and in our hearts. Therefore, we can live each day relying on Christ’s victorious work to help build our faith.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 3/24/2021
Praise the Lord that we have a God who hears and listens to us! In this week’s devotional, we are reminded that our God receives our deepest fears and highest elations. When we release these emotions to Him, we can truly trust in His ways and purposes no matter what is happening around us. Would you allow God to be our great refuge even as we experience extraordinary highs and lows in this season?

UPDATE: Sunday, 3/21/2021
Reopening Update • The Reopening Task Force along with our Pastoral Staff have been working diligently and praying fervently in preparation for our return to our church campus. We know how eager we are to regather together as the LA County Covid-19 restrictions are being lifted and many in our church family are being vaccinated.
Please note the following:
- English-Speaking Worship will have a limited in-person Easter Service on 4/3 (Saturday). This in-person worship service is a one-time initial step as we transition into a hybrid (in-person/online) phase of our FCBCLA ministries. The church is not re-opening for weekly worship yet. We will evaluate how this goes and continue to plan our next steps.
- Mandarin-speaking Worship will begin to livestream from the MPR (Hall of Truth) beginning today, 3/21. This will allow space in the Worship Center for English-speaking Worship to move back to livestreaming on Sundays at 10:45 am.
- Ongoing preparation of the facilities, seating arrangements, cleaning protocol, custodial staff assignments, security guard service, etc. are being worked on.
- A registration and check-in system is being implemented to facilitate future worship services as we begin to regather.
We realize that many of us may not be ready to return due to various reasons. Therefore, we will continue to livestream our worship services to allow those who choose to stay at home to worship together. We ask that you act according to your own conscience and what is best for your health and safety.
At this point, our goal is to regather for limited in-person worship services with livestream in all languages sometime in the future. Please stay tuned for more information. We will continue to have all other ministries remain online to minimize disruption of our ministry operations. Furthermore, plans are being made and implemented for our Children’s Ministry. For the foreseeable future, we will continue in this hybrid (in-person/online) mode.
Thank you for your prayers and patience as we make the needed adjustments and modifications to our church ministry and facilities. We look forward to our regathering very soon!

Not to us, Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory because of your faithful love, because of your truth. | Psalm 115:1
Whether in good times or bad times, may we give all the honor and glory that is due to God alone. He has been with us faithfully through this season and will continue to be with us after this season. Let us continue to bring all praise to our Lord and Savior each day!

UPDATE: Wednesday, 3/10/2021
This week, we focus on the lesson of listening to the words of God through His messengers. Even in the midst of a pandemic, consider the ways God has specifically spoken to you through His Word and His people. God has chosen these impactful ways to get His message across to us and I hope we have been attentive to what He is saying. May we be aware of our own attitudes and acceptance of what God is saying through whomever He chooses to speak. Let’s have listening ears and open hearts this week!

UPDATE: Wednesday, 3/3/2021
Ascribe to the Lord the glory of his name; bring an offering and enter his courts. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness; let the whole earth tremble before him.
Psalm 96:8-9 calls us to give God the glory He deserves just because His name should bring reverence and awe in our worship. This week, as we look at the sacredness of the use of God’s name, may we recognize how holy God is. As we use God’s name in the proper way, I pray that it leads us to truly worship and honor the God whose presence has been with us throughout this time.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 2/24/2021
As we continue the theme of thankfulness this week, we look at the attitude and perspective of the apostle Paul. As he was locked away in prison, his heart of gratefulness to God for the partnership of the church allowed him to persevere in the Gospel. Despite great hardship and isolation, Paul was still able to preach the hope and love of Jesus Christ to both believers and unbelievers. This all began with a heart focused on giving God glory despite his own difficulties and hardships. May we continue to have a grateful attitude, so that God can use us to share that joy with others.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 2/17/2021
The Bible calls us to be thankful in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:18). This week, we take a moment to be grateful despite our current situation. Take a moment to reflect on the past few months then acknowledge something about God that has been revealed, give thanks for a blessing you witnessed, or be grateful for someone God has put in your life. As we do this regularly, our perspective begins to change as we focus on eternal rather than temporary things. I pray we have a heart that is more thankful in this season!

UPDATE: Wednesday, 2/10/2021
It may be difficult to imagine a life of peace during the past months. But as we look into God’s Word, there are clear ways to experience ‘peace like a river’ when we remember what God instructed. This week, may we take some moments to recall all that God has said to us through past experiences, lessons, and even sermons. What specific points has God shown us about Him and His promises despite our circumstances today? May we experience peace as we remember our Lord’s words.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 2/3/2021
As we look at the world around us, especially during the pandemic, it’s getting easier to see signs of the end times as described in the Bible. While we may anticipate and look for the coming of Christ through extraordinary circumstances, may we not forget to look within. Our devotional this week reminds us to continue walking closely with God even more as the end draws near. May that relationship cause us to remove any sins and “darkness” in each of us as we look towards the light of Christ for salvation!

UPDATE: Wednesday, 1/27/2021
Scripture reminds us this week that while in the midst of suffering, God still graciously gives us “good and perfect” gifts from above. May we seek God through such gifts, knowing that they are representative of His good and perfect character. He knows exactly what we need in the midst of trials and blessings. Let’s lean on a constant God who does not change as we endure through this difficult time. And if He leads you, consider giving a special blessing to someone else this week.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 1/20/2021
Hebrews 3:13 says, “But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today…” Before you listen to this week’s devotional, take a moment to consider someone specific who may need a word of encouragement. Think about a way to reach out with a specific Bible verse, quotation, or song. Use this opportunity to speak about how these powerful words can help us in this difficult season. May God use us as His instruments of encouragement throughout the week and may we consider making it a daily habit – just like this verse says.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 1/13/2021
It has been nearly 10 months since the start of our stay-at-home orders with no definitive end date. Even though it seems we wait endlessly, may we not forget to remain focused on our spiritual lives. This week, as we challenge ourselves on spiritual matters, let us develop an attitude of steadfastness and growth. Our prayer is to uplift us as God’s people to grow in our spiritual lives and continue to live by faith rather than falling back. While it’s been a long and arduous road, may this week’s focus remind and challenge us to keep pressing on in the Lord.

FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
Whether in hardship or blessing, suffering or favor, anxiousness or peace, let us remember that God has His promised plans for our lives. In the midst of this enduring season, we look to the Lord as the one who constantly guides our paths, has an everlasting promise, and continues to lead us with His mighty hand. It may not look like the plans we have, but God will ultimately lead us through this hardship and into His great glory. And even though we don’t know the length of time for Him to accomplish this, our hope is to put our trust in Him each day to fulfill His perfect plans through us. May the Lord indeed help us.

May we seek the truth of God as we pray over our voting responsibility as citizens of this country. Ask the Lord for His heavenly wisdom and guidance in the upcoming elections and issues that are before us. Over the next few weeks, take the time to hear from God through these devotionals and remain faithful in prayer for our country no matter what the outcome may be.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 10/14/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
Colossians 3:2-3 reminds us to “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” As we look around at our earthly circumstances, they can easily distract us from seeing the things above. As you listen to this week’s devotional, make a commitment to focus on life with a greater eternal perspective. What earthly distractions have hindered your heavenly focus? Acknowledge and submit these things before God this week.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 10/7/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
As we take time to pray for our youth this week, think about someone you may personally know in this age group. Pray that God would meet them in this difficult time as they navigate academics, social relationships, and seek spiritual community. The Bible prompts us to pray on behalf of this group to experience joy and to take action today in light of eternity. Pray that their daily decisions would be made with wisdom rooted in Biblical foundations. Let us seek God’s divine work so that our youth would pursue eternal joy rather than temporary entertainment.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 9/30/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
The natural disasters that our country is experiencing can remind us of God’s judgment upon His people. The Bible often uses extreme natural occurrences to grab the attention of those experiencing them. But alongside these events, God often shows His mercy despite great destruction. As we continue to endure and persevere through earthquakes, fires, and the pandemic, may we also cling to the new mercies that the Lord has for us each day. As difficult as it may be, let us give God our full attention and seek His will for us through this prolonged season.

FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
This week, will you join us in praying earnestly for the elderly in our church? Take a moment to consider someone in your life who is older in age and perhaps struggling in this current season. As we engage with God’s Word, His truth reminds us to pray specifically for this age group’s usefulness and effectiveness. No matter the difficulties, we hope and pray that our elderly will continue to persevere physically and mentally but especially, they will excel in displaying God’s glory to others in the best way possible.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 9/2/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
We are getting close to our sixth month of quarantine and if you’re anything like me, there have been many times of impatience, annoyance, and even anger. As we study a familiar passage this week, may we be reminded that both you and I are in need of personal reflection and examination. Even though circumstances, events, and perhaps other people may have caused us to feel irritated, Jesus reminds us in Matthew to look inwardly first and foremost. We pray for humility this week to see our own faults and weaknesses before pointing out faults and weaknesses in others.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 8/26/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
Praise God that we have access to talk to and hear from Him through the power of prayer. As we reflect on Psalm 72 this week, take notice of the way David prayed and passed on this important prayer to his son Solomon. David’s example of prayer focused on the goodness of God in a way that was memorable to the next generation. As we pray to the Lord, especially in this critical season, let’s remain focused on God’s great character that is unchanging even though our circumstances continue to be unpredictable.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 8/19/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
Even though this season may be difficult, we hope and pray that we can still put our trust in God. As David writes in Psalm 56, “When I am afraid, I will trust in [God].” Through difficult times, David remembered and looked to the Lord as his trust in Him remained strong. David even took his trust one step further by praising God in the midst of turmoil and oppression. May this short devotional remind us to put our faith and hope in a God who is worthy to be praised. Take a moment to read and reflect on this entire psalm this week.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 8/12/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
As we continue to wait on the Lord in this season, we must ask ourselves, “What is God saying to us? How is God getting our attention?” This week’s devotional from Psalm 50 reminds us that our great and mighty God is speaking directly to us. As His people, we need to pay attention, listen, and act on what He says. We also need to pray that we maintain a posture of continued waiting and listening for God’s direction, no matter how long it takes.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 7/29/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
You are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble.
You surround me with joyful shouts of deliverance. Selah (Psalm 32:7)
This chapter in the Psalms describes those who come to the Lord in times of trial and tribulation. The writer realizes the promises of God’s presence, forgiveness, and comfort. Even in the midst of turmoil, whether external or internal, we are reminded that we can go to God in a ‘hiding place’ that is both physical and spiritual. In this place, we can be open and honest before God and find great joy by being with Him. As you watch the video linked below, please also take some time this week to read and meditate on the whole chapter of Psalm 32. May it bring you joy in these difficult times.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 7/22/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
As the news in our country tells us that the pandemic is far from over, we still want to be reminded of God’s unending faithfulness to His people. Even though reopening may seem further and further away, let us stay faithful to a God who has always remained present with us each and every day. This week, let us be reminded that we place our trust in the promise of God to remain faithful even when we are faithless (2 Timothy 2:13) and as we recall the words from an age-old hymn:
“Great is Thy faithfulness, ” O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.
“Great is Thy faithfulness!” “Great is Thy faithfulness!”

UPDATE: Wednesday, 7/15/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
Isaiah 55:8-9 tells us that God’s “ways are not our ways” and His “thoughts are not our thoughts.” As we receive news that indoor gatherings and businesses are being shut down again, we may be left wondering what is happening and what the future holds. Our devotional this week reminds us that even though we may feel rejected, dejected, and confused, God’s ways are higher and greater than our own. We may not understand exactly why God is allowing this pandemic to continue, but let us hold to the promise that God has a bigger plan for all of us in this. May we remain focused on Him throughout this difficult and confusing time.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 7/8/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
As some of us may be returning to our places of work soon, may we be reminded of our faithful witness to our coworkers. Our passage this week gives us great insight on practical ways to show others the work of Christ even while being back in the office. Perhaps there are opportunities in our everyday conversations to share about our Savior even while we work virtually. Whether we’re changing our physical location for work, remaining at home, or even walking around the neighborhood, let us be encouraging, loving, and prayerful. God may be giving us the perfect opportunity to share about Him in even the smallest conversations.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 7/1/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
This week, we are praying that the church would experience wisdom and discernment for the ‘hollow and deceptive philosophy’ in these days (Colossians 2:8). May we guard ourselves against the lies and schemes of the Evil One so that our focus and foundation would be found in the truth of God and His Word for us. It is too easy to get lost in the news, statistics, and opinions all around us. Let us pray for great counsel from the Holy Spirit as we root ourselves in the hope of Christ rather than the wrong messages of this world.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 6/24/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
Does the Lord take pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord?
“Look: to obey is better than sacrifice, to pay attention is better than the fat of rams.” 1 Samuel 15:22
As we consider how the church will return in the near future, we often discuss what worship service will look like in the ‘new normal.’ It has been so easy to get carried away with all the different voices, opinions, and statistics that affect our return. Our devotional this week reminds us of the essential focus of obedience in the midst of all the decisions and details that need to be met in order to meet again. While there is still much to discuss, would you join us to pray that we not lose sight of the importance of obeying the Lord our God first and foremost?

UPDATE: Wednesday, 6/17/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
As we enter into the summer months, we can’t help but think about the upcoming new church year that’s right around the corner. Along with the new church year, there will be new opportunities, new ways to do ministry, and new ways to serve. We can’t wait for you to join us in any capacity to continue to bring life to the church whether we meet in person or continue to be at home. But before we think about service opportunities, let us not lose sight of this season to ‘follow’ wholeheartedly. As we continue to seek God in ways to serve, we must not forget what He may be asking of us now: to know Him and spend time with Him. Let us look to the Lord not just for direction and guidance for future ministry opportunities, but to simply sit at His feet, building our relationship with Him.

FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
The one who lives under the protection of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1
As we look into Psalm 91 this week, we praise our God for His protection and sovereignty over the past few months. In a world that seems as chaotic as ever, our hope is to surrender ourselves to the presence of God. May we seek His counsel and guidance because He is a God who is faithful and true. It is our prayer that we can find satisfaction in God’s timing for His righteousness and ultimate deliverance. Please take a moment to read and meditate on this great chapter of Scripture throughout the week.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 6/3/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
Over the past few days, we have witnessed in our country deep wounds that have brought forth great pain and sorrow expressed in many different ways. We may not know what to say or do in these matters, but may we be reminded of the grace and mercy God has given us through Jesus Christ. This week, take the time to confess your own personal struggles and sins, but also, confess the blatant sins of our world that have filled our screens over the past few days. Take a moment to seek God’s forgiveness on behalf of your own life, the sinful patterns of our nation, and the prevalence of sin worldwide. Confess these sins because He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

UPDATE: Sunday, 5/31/2020
Dear brothers, sisters, and regular attenders of FCBCLA,
On behalf of the pastoral staff, we pray that you and your family are doing well in the Lord!
It has been more than two months since the “Safer at Home” public orders were issued. Recently, local public health officials provided guidance on how to safely reopen our church campus for in-person worship services and gatherings. The pastoral staff along with our Reopening Task Force have been working on plans to reopen, but it will take time due to the size and complexity of our ministries and the numerous limitations in the LA County guidance.
Although we do not plan to reopen our church campus immediately, it will be weeks (not months) before we regather in person. For now, we are preparing our facilities and transitioning our worship services to live-streaming to allow for those who remain home to join us in worshipping God.
The burden and priority of pastoral staff is to uphold our love for God, our neighbors, and our witness to our community. Along with that, the wellbeing of brothers and sisters and visitors to our church is a high priority. We believe that as shepherds of God’s flock, we have the responsibility to make wise and sound decisions as we follow our Chief Shepherd Jesus Christ. Our decisions will be made biblically, legally, and responsibly.
Please pray for the pastoral staff and Reopening Task Force as we plan. We will keep you informed as plans progress. We look forward to the day when we can meet together again face to face as the body of Christ.
Until then, grace and peace to you and your family!
FCBCLA Pastoral Staff

UPDATE: Wednesday, 5/27/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
As our church looks to planning our return to ministry, we try to look ahead with faith while also being mindful and careful. Although we may not know what church may look like in the future, we continue to hold to the everlasting promise of God’s sovereignty and faithfulness each day. God may be guiding us to a place where we cannot see all the details yet, so may we hold on to His presence with us daily. Let us seek His direction and leading through prayer and the reading of His Word. I pray we are a people who continue to live in patience and perseverance for God’s timing that leads us to our God-given destination.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 5/20/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
Over the past few months now, we hope as a church to continue to lean on the power of prayer. May this week’s devotional serve as a reminder to come before our Lord with a humble and honest heart asking for His guidance and direction. Let us not just ask with general requests, but let us be specific with our desires before Him. God promises to hear and answer us, so may we be willing to ask, seek, and knock with open hearts willing to be transformed.

“Safer at Home” Update and Reopening Survey: The pastoral staff along with our COVID-19 task force have been praying and planning for our return. The main priorities are the health and well-being of our church family and our witness to our community as we begin to reopen the church campus for worship services and gatherings. UPDATE: Wednesday, 5/13/2020
FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
Our hearts as church leaders have been and always will be as people ready and available for spiritual change and transformation. Sometimes, God calls for this change through difficult circumstances. The Bible refers to this as being “refined” in fire as with precious metals or jewels. Our hope is that we are purified and made more whole especially during this difficult and trying season. As we continue to walk through this refinement with Him, may we be aware of how God is transforming us to be more like Jesus and to live out His righteousness and goodness.

Let us not forget this powerful weapon to approach God more often because He hears us and brings great comfort in our time of need.

Summer Ministries
Due to the impact of COVID-19 in California and our commitment to ensure the safety of our brothers and sisters, the Senior Pastoral Team has decided that all programs and activities that require a large group setting and extensive planning will be cancelled through August.
This includes children and youth camps, mission trips such as HSMT, summer enrichment programs for adults and children, etc. Also, as previously announced, our church office and campus will remain closed for church business and ministries until further notice. Should you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Pastor Benny, Pastor Abraham, or Pastor Chris.
Our pastoral staff recognizes that our summer ministries have historically played a significant part in discipleship and evangelism. We have always looked forward to God’s amazing work during these important months and are thankful for your past involvement in making summer ministries possible through the years.
Given the current situation, this summer at church will look very different but we believe that by God’s grace we can still make a significant impact for God’s Kingdom. Please pray with us and work with us as we look forward to finding new ways of doing God’s work during these unprecedented times.
Communion
We will resume our monthly communion beginning May 3rd. The Cantonese congregation will have communion on the first Sunday of the month. The Mandarin and English congregations will have communion on the fourth Sunday of the month.
We will conduct all three communions live via Zoom meetings at these times:
Cantonese – 10:15 am (Sunday, May 3)
English – 12:15 pm (Sunday, May 24)
Mandarin – 10:30 am (Sunday, May 24)

If you cannot prepare your own communion elements, you may pick up the elements from one of the seven distribution stations (same stations as for face masks distribution).

Deuteronomy 31:8 tells us a great promise of God’s strength and presence, “The Lord is the one who will go before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or abandon you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.” As we seek God’s Word together this week, we pray that He continues to lead us not only for each moment and hour, but even more so for our future. However long we are to stay at home, let us not be afraid because simply put, God is with us.

“Safer At Home” Update
As you may be well aware, the “Safer At Home” order has been extended to May 15th by our local government. We continue to submit to our governing authorities, pray for God’s divine intervention, and serve where we can in this crisis. As such, we will continue to provide shepherding, along with the ministry of the Word and prayer in the current online format. May we continue to trust and hope in our Lord Jesus Christ and wait upon Him!

FROM THE DESK OF THE SENIOR PASTOR
Greetings! As we remember the Lord Jesus this Passion Week, let us be reminded more than ever of our need for a Savior. Jesus modeled for us what humility and obedience looked like in the face of uncertainty and even certain death. May we adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus as we face each day! I call all of us to set aside time this week to remember our Lord Jesus through daily devotions, prayer, and special services. As the church, we want to emphasize, together, our focus on Jesus in the midst of our lives at home. May His amazing grace fill us to experience God’s unchanging love for those around us.

Thursday, 3/12/2020
Dear FCBCLA Brothers and Sisters and Regular Attenders,
As you may be aware of the rapidly changing situation with COVID-19, the state and county public health officials have advised large gatherings to be limited at this time. This afternoon, our Response Team was part of a teleconference call with the LA County Public Health for faith-based organizations that strongly emphasized the need to comply. Therefore, the Pastoral Staff and our Response Team, after prayerfully seeking the Lord’s will and direction, have decided to suspend all worship services and church activities on the church campus effective March 13, 2020. This will be in effect until March 31, 2020, unless further extended. We will closely monitor the situation and keep our church family informed.
In this season, we hope to emphasize that we are taking these actions out of love for our neighbors and each other. We pray that God would have mercy on all who are affected, those who are vulnerable, and our frontline responders. We would also like to encourage you to reach out to one another and to consider how we may love our neighbors. May we extend the love and peace of Christ to those around us. Above all, let us pray earnestly for God to deliver us and glorify the name of Jesus Christ!
We would like for our church family to take the following steps:
- Stay updated through our FCBCLA website, app and Facebook page. https://fcbc.org
- All smaller gatherings of less than 20 people may continue to meet away from the church campus but are encouraged to be modified to reduce exposure and spread of the illness. There is still a need for fellowship and care for each other during this season. Be creative in reaching out to each other and gathering together. If you are well enough and low-risk (to your family and others), please consider meeting together in small groups in homes. If this is a concern, please reach out to our pastors for suggestions. You can conduct meetings via online platforms, virtual bible studies, family worship times, home prayer meetings, and gather together to view our weekly videos that will be released for your use to worship God.
- Weekly videos and content will be released for your use to worship God. We will do our best to serve the ministry of the Word and prayer to our church family.
- The church office will remain open with modified hours. Please call before you visit. The pastors remain available to serve you and pray for you in any way. These are stressful times, so please do not hesitate to contact us.
- Lastly, if you or a family member, has been found positive, presumptive positive, or may have come in contact with someone with COVID-19, please inform your fellowship/small group leader or pastor immediately.
We understand that these may be fearful times, but may it strengthen our faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and deepen our love for one another and those around us. Always remember, these may be uncertain times, but we serve an unchanging God.
