What is Junior Camp?
Junior Camp provides upper elementary-age children an opportunity to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ, by encouraging them to develop Christian friendships and Christ-like character, in a retreat-like atmosphere.
The Purpose of Camp:
- It presents the junior an opportunity to confirm his/her salvation and to establish a program for his/her spiritual development.
- It challenges juniors to develop day-to-day living habits within the standards of Christian conduct.
- It offers opportunities for enriching Christian friendships and enjoying camp related activities in a retreat-like atmosphere.
Camp Speaker: Brett Humphrey
"My name is Brett Humphrey and I am the Executive Pastor, Children’s Ministries at Southwest Community Church. I have been on staff at my current church for 8 years and have been in ministry either on staff or as a volunteer for 23 years. I have been married to Jennifer for 19 years and we have three children, Kenny, Josh and Sofie. I love to spend time with my family, reading and growing closer to God. I love to teach children that they can start following Jesus at an early age and follow Him throughout their lives."
Who May Attend?:
Children who have regularly attended FCBC, LA for at least the past 6 months and have completed grades 3, 4, 5 or 6 may attend. Junior Camp focuses on teaching proper Christian behavior for Church-going children. Many children who are unfamiliar with the counselors, other juniors, and type of program a Church retreat offers may not be able to adjust to both the focus and length of the camp. All juniors must have the consent of the Children’s Minister.
Activities:
Worship and Bible Study teach juniors how to apply God’s Word to their daily lives.
Learning Activities encourage juniors to use their skills to serve others.
Friendship Building occurs through activities such as small groups and recreation times.
Free time activities include swimming, BB gun and archery ranges, low adventure rope course, and a paintball target town. The low adventure rope course and paintball target town are specifically designed for junior-age campers. Please be sure to complete the Pine Summit activity release section on the registration form.
Facilities:
Camp will be held at Pine Summit, located in Big Bear. Our Church has used Pine Summit for approximately the past 30 years. Facilities include cabins, a gift shop, snack bar, pool, and many other recreation facilities.
The camp will provide three buffet meals plus an evening snack each day. Snacks should not be packed for your child to eat during the week as food is not allowed in the cabins. Should your child be on a restrictive diet, please notify one of the camp directors.
Cabin Assignments:
Cabin assignments are determined by gender, grade, and space availability. Occasionally, parents request that their child be assigned with a specific friend. It is our desire to help the juniors feel comfortable as well as provide them the opportunity to make new friends. For these reasons, we cannot guarantee that requests will be met.
Transportation:
Transportation will be by chartered bus. Any other arrangements to the camp site are not encouragedb and are subject to the approval of the Junior Camp directors.
Supervision:
Counselors are required to successfully complete an application process and training courses. Certified Life Guards are on duty during the use of the swimming pool. Registered Nurses will be available 24 hours a day.
